Wii Elbow

My friends got a Wii last week. My first impression was one of disappointment. Then they got a second Wiimote. Yesterday we played Wii Sports for eight hours. I have now experienced a series of Wii related ailments that I’d like to share with you.

Lego Katamari
This is only slightly more blocky than the actual game

As I said the other day, my new PS2 is specifically geared for bringing exclusives into my home. One of the more original titles to come along in years for any system is the roly-poly freakshow Katamari Damacy. You play the Prince of the Cosmos, whose kitten-huffing father, The King, has shattered the stars and tasked you with rebuilding them by rolling up all of earth’s crap. The game is a total head trip that is endlessly entertaining and will have you going back long after you’ve beaten the main story.

Hey, I never said it’d be a long post every day this week.

Winter Games Hits the Road

SamMax
Ta-Da!!! Now who’s pulling who out of a hat, motherfucker?!?!

It was really only a coincidence but I think I’m working up a new tradition here to include 1 classic LucasArts adventure on my Winter Games list every year. Last year Grim Fandango ate the bomb (and was the only game on my list to do so) but this year the spot goes to Sam and Max Hit the Road. This hilarious take on cheesy Americana heartland tourism was an instant classic and has recently gotten its due with the episodic sequels being released by Telltale Games.

A Whole New Catalog

Posted by Daedalus on Saturday, February 10, 2007

Some people wanted a shiny new PS3 this past holiday. Others were craving the novelty approach of the Wii. Me? I just wanted to catch up on some exclusives I’ve missed over the years by not having a Sony console. God of War, Guitar Hero, Katamari Damacy, Ratchet & Clank…the list goes on and on. Well Santa was good and brought me not only a pristine slim PS2 but also Ratchet: Deadlocked and SOCOM: Combined Arms to go along with it (with a little Guitar Hero follow-up for my birthday the week after). More to come on those titles later but in the spirit of the season I got a care package from Tritone that was brimming with some of the aforementioned console-exclusive goodies.

Nintendo DS Lite — sold out?

Posted by Denalan on Friday, February 9, 2007

The Nintendo DS Lite is sold out

Apparently even 8 months after its release, the Nintendo DS Lite is sold out almost everywhere but ebay and price-inflated resellers. I’ve taken a look at most online and retail stores, and indeed the portable game systems are nowhere to be found. This comes at an inopportune time for a friend of mine, who wants to buy a Nintendo DS for her husband’s birthday.

Could the systems really be that popular? Or has Nintendo just focused production on the Wii (which, by the way, is also still completely sold out)? I All indications seem to point to hot sales. According to PunchJump, 35 million Nintendo DS units have been sold so far, and the Wii and DS games lead the top-ten list on Amazon. DS games have also been making a killing in Japan.

And the systems are apparently attractive to child molesters too. That’s a couple of million sales right there.

So if you were thinking about picking up one of these devices, good luck. My guess is they’ll probably be available sometime this summer.

Phil? Phil Connors? Phil Connors, I thought that was you!

Wha?…..Heeeeyyyyyyy….long time no see!!! What’s it been? Since high school? How the hell are ya? What have you been doing with yourse…..ah fuck it. You get the idea. Yes, it’s been a hell of a long time since I’ve posted anything, and the last thing was only a picture and a stupid headline. Guilty as charged. Now get off my back! I’m coming back with what will hopefully be a week of daily posts before retreating once again into hibernation. Kicking things off is the first of my Winter Games to eat a bomb, Beyond Good & Evil.

Okay, I think we’re about ready to go

Too Many Distractions

Posted by Denalan on Friday, February 9, 2007

Games that have distracted me from Winter Games 2007

Well I’ve tried completing my Winter Games for 2007, believe me I’ve tried. But I’ve had waaay too many distractions that are keeping me from my goal. For instance, when given the choice of Parasite Eve for the PSOne (which is on my Winter Games list), or Zelda for the Wii (which is not on the list), guess which one I end up playing? Or as I start the final levels of Trauma Center for the DS (on the list), someone IM’s me and wants me to play WoW (which Brixtone has stricken from our lists), I can’t resist firing up my level 60.

There are just too many new great games I have that are keeping me from completing the old ones. Things look bleak for me—especially since I just bought WoW The Burning Crusade. Now excuse me while I hit the Outland.

God of Stealth

I AM THE GOD OF STEALTH!!!

Splinter Cell is finished as of 1:30AM EST. After I got this bozo to give me his password, I grabbed a chopper and headed for Georgia to take on Nikoladze. I arrived under the cover of night and had just enough time before the sun came up to practice my performance art routine.

Turrets, like dogs, are unable to look up.

I’m almost done with Mission 7 at the Meat Factory. That freezer fog was pretty exciting. It forced me to use my thermal sensors for most of the level. One nice detail is that enemy bodies start to disappear when they cool after you kill them.
