Cult Classics - The Neverhood

Posted by Dodongo on Saturday, April 3, 2004

First in my recent quest too seek out and complete cult classic adventure games is The Neverhood, a Dreamworks Interactive title from 1996. As I said before, my wife and I completed it back in ‘96, but gave away our copy unbeknownst of it’s future cult status and high auction prices. It’s a very innovative game done almost entirely with claymation. Even the menu system is made of clay! Check out:

This mailbox gives you hints on how to solve various puzzles throughout the game. You can keep coming back whenever you get stuck. It’s a great way to widen the learning curve, but perhaps that $.99 a minute hint line fee would’ve helped to save the company!

Many thanks to Jeff for lending this to me. We’re hoping to have a game trading page soon that lists games we all own so as to better share the love.

The Greatest Game Ever!

Posted by Dodongo on Saturday, April 3, 2004

My recent frustration with Syberia and the crappy state of adventure gaming in general has sparked in me the need to create the greatest adventure game ever made. My wife and I had dinner last night with Jeff and Erin and we all agreed that this must be done. We’ve played countless great and terrible adventure games and know what it takes to be a good game, so why not apply that knowledge? Jeff’s a film scorer, I’m an audio engineer/editor, Erin’s an actress, Jess (my wife) is an artist. We’re half way there! Now we just need a millionaire and a team of underpaid Korean programmers and we’re off!

If this thing gets off the ground, it’d be a great forum addition to eatmybomb. We could post progress reports, demos, and artistic sketches. In fact, I’ve already begun planning the puzzles. See if you can figure out how to open this box.
