Truth in Advertising

It’s called “Quiz & Dragons” and that’s what it’s got. This 1992 arcade game from Capcom is a video board game where two players in the form of either a Ninja, Wizard, Amazon, or Warrior must defeat various mythical beasts by answering trivia questions. If you answer incorrectly, you lose vitality. Along the way you find items and can use abilities to make answering the questions easier by taking out two of the incorrect answers or in some cases flashing the number of the correct answer (though you’d be amazed by how many times I pressed the wrong button…) Brixtone, HolyCow, and I teamed up to feed this one the bomb. It had a most entertaining ending….
It never occured to me, but outdated trivia games can be much more challenging than current ones because you have to take into consideration when it was made. Aside from pop culture references to things that have long since faded out of existence there were questions like “Which of these teams has never won a Super Bowl” The correct answer: The Denver Broncos…
After defeating the evil warlock Gordian by answering eight questions, Brixtone and I fed the bomb to The Simpsons Arcade Game. I was very disappointed by that one. I remembered it being much cooler than it is. After button mashing through wave after wave of generic men in suits and bosses with random attack patterns making strategy useless (but ensuring massive quarter consumption), we finally beat Mr. Burns and were treated to the most pathetic ending since Karnov. Had this not been a MAME ROM, we probably would have spent $20 between us before all was said and done, though the game was generous enough to let us keep playing from the beginning after we beat it since we still had lives.
