Play Games, You Slags

Another beautiful weekend in Boston, another weekend free of gaming. But here’s something I did find. A funny little site called the Video Game Museum. It’s a good source for nostalgia like this:

Archon 1 - Ingame.gif
Archon - Chess Without All the Thinking

Anyway, I had to put something about gaming up here because the fans are getting pissed. Hope everyone has some good gaming this week.

Speaking of games that belong in a museum (other than “Museum Raider”, “Museum Recon”, and “Fallout Museum: Brotherhood of Museum”), does anyone play those console emulators anymore? I tried to get an emulator for Chronotrigger (an SNES classic) a tich back but was foiled by bad code that prevented me from using a button combination required to advance past a certain point.

I’ve played Chronotrigger on my Mac Emulator with no problems using a Gravis pro USB controller. I didn’t play it the whole way through so I’m not sure what button combo you’re referring to. I did play Secret of Mana all the way through with no hitches.

Chris, the limitation might be either the controller or keyboard you’re using. Sometimes you can only hit so many buttons at once. What are you using for a controller?

Early into the game you’re in some sort of futuristic wasteland where you have to chase down a rat who tells you how open a secret door to the next level with a three-button combo. The problem was documented in a few websites that offered patches to fix that explicit problem, but none of them ever worked out for me. Since saved games didn’t translate after the patch, I’d have to play three or four hours of the game in order to find out if the patch worked or not. I gave up on that one pretty fast. I was actually using my keyboard, so maybe getting a $15 control pad is the answer.

Chris, I think that’s your problem right there. Keyboards can typically only send a couple of signals at a time so you’re getting screwed on the multiple button combos.

I would also strongly recommend the USB Gravis gamepads (you can find these dirt cheap on eBay) for the golden experience with the emulators. Keep us posted.

LOL… I cannot count the number of people I have ran into which have had the same problem with that game and emulators [me included].
