One down, nine to go…

I don’t know why, but I have a hard time finishing RTS games. My wife blows through them with no problem; even completing the expansion missions! I’ve never finished Warcraft 2, had to be forced to finish Warcraft 3 (thank you Summer Games) and never finished Starcraft despite getting damn close. Well now is the time to remedy this.

I spent a half hour trying to get Starcraft to load one of my old saves from back when I quit the game, but the one save I needed was corrupt so I decided to just play the Protoss campaign from the beginning. Only a few seconds into the first level I remembered why my interest had waned in the first place. The Protoss are slow and lumbering and those Dragoons are downright retarded. They never go where you tell them and spend half the time running around your base like they got a rash on their asses. Trying to maneuver a large group of them is extremely difficult. I also don’t like that you can’t repair your buildings. They’ll just sit there on fire unless the enemy destroys them completly. The photon cannons kick ass though.

I got a nostalgic chill the first time I heard the load screen music. It sets such an incredibly rich mood and still sounds great. I was instantly whisked back to 1999 when I first started playing while living in Jersey City. The game hasn’t lost anything in the eight years since its release and I bet if Blizzard released another expansion pack for it now, it would be a best seller.

I look forward to finally feeding it the bomb.
