MAN…No…LAN Party

Posted by Brixtone on Tuesday, May 31, 2005

To celebrate AJ’s graduation and the end of my Spring semester, the Boston-based EMB editors had a little get together at my place on the evening of May 12th. Halo 2 was the game of the evening as Tim and AJ ate the bomb served up by Dan and myself. Mike played World of Warcraft while serving as our in-house referee. We got so caught up in the gaming that we forgot to watch the XBox 360 launch event on MTV. So we waited until 1:30am for the repeat performance of what can only be the biggest letdown in video gaming history.

Any non-Boston-based EMB editor who may feel like they missed out on the fun can take solace in the fact that we spent nearly as much time trying to get the systems linked up as we actually spent kicking Tim and AJ’s….er, uh, playing several rousing games chock full of stiff competition.

I got the Hulkster’s picture on Saturday at the World Gym in Tewksbury. He gave me a noncommittal nod when I asked him to attend the next EMB gaming session but I think he’ll be there.

Let’s not forgot my destruction of all players in Mariokart.

I seem to recall a couple of 1st place victories by an anonymous racer amidst frantic cries of “Who is that in front? Which one of you is player 3? Tell me so I can kill you!”

Unfulfilled promises, Mike.

I recall Mike and I kicking everybody’s ass and riding home with the 1st place trophy.

Maybe your memory is cloudy because you were eating our dust.

And yes, you and Jeff beat AJ and my collective ass at Halo 2. My only excuse is that Hulk Hogan was creeping me out because he kept staring at me.

It was either that or the Johnnie Walker Blue Label….

I have to say I was very proud of my manlike handling of the sound beating I took in Halo. I managed to stifle my crying until I reached the car on the way home for the most part - and the lone tear I shed was cleverly blamed on a stray piece of salsa getting in my eyes.

On the positive side, I am thoroughly acquianted now with all the match maps’ ground and sky layouts having spent the bulk of my time mastering the art of “looking around”. If anyone is interested in a team deatchmatch partner who cal tell you where you are based on the ground texture - I’m your man!

I will wager whats left of my video game rep on a revival round of Renegade if you gentleman are up for a throwback game…
