Eat My Bomb: Sweet 16

Ok so I’ve made a tentative name for the crappy game secret santa and I put together a table of what consoles people have. If something isn’t on here, just add it to the comments of this post and I will update the table.

I think it would definitely be funny to get the random crappy game in the mail. Anyone got any idea how we can pick each other’s addresses out of a hat virtually? Man, I sound like a dork. This way though, it would be pretty damn funny to get two posts out of the deal, the first one being a digital picture of what game you got in the mail. And Jeff, Dan needs an account. Also, how about a category for this activity once we have a final name? And thanks for making the comment font bigger.

I think we should stay away from the emulators as everyone already has every game ever made for them. It’s much more fun to find some gem you’ve never heard of in a bargain bin somewhere and mail it to the victim.

As for the name selection, I thought Jeff or I could just put the names in a hat, pick for everybody, and then email each person with their victim’s name. One of us would know who got our name, but it’d be a secret to everyone else. Beyond someone coming up with an online name selection program, this seems like the easiest solution.

How about having someone not involved in the…activity (can this madness even be called anything else?) pick the names so that everyone gets to be victimized with equal anonymity?

As low tech as this might sound, you take 5 different colored index cards and write each person’s shipping info on the left hand side and the e-mail address on the right hand side. Cut them all in half and have said person draw a pair at a time. If the colors match, back they go for a redraw. At the end of the picks, the shipping info is e-mailed off and nobody involved is the wiser.

I think the next question is price capping. While I think it would be hilarious to inflict not only mental anguish but also eye strain and scoliosis by sending someone a whole Virtual Boy, the sadism should probably be restricted to a $10.00 or less price point. However…if we want to make sure that nothing but utter crap is found (and make the hunt just as frustrating as the gameplay) we could push that down to $5.00.

Just some thoughts.

I don’t think a price cap is necessary since part of the goal is trying to find the most bizarre game at the lowest price. If someone finds something completely bonkers for $20 and wants to spend it, I say go ahead. They’ll just break the rules anyway if we set a cap.

I could probably have Jess pick the names and mail them. I think it’d be more fun to snail mail the names to each participant also.

Count me in. Gamecube, Mac OS X. I’ll probably dig around the bins for something good; no need to mail me a game (it might be tough to find something really bad for these platforms anyhoo).

Ah, well on second thought–go ahead and include me on the secret-Santa. I look forward to some intense Barbie dollhouse action!
