Do it.

For all you PS2 owners who have been on the fence about becoming a two-console household, your time has come. MacMall has the refurbed XBox with one controller for $109.

God that’s tempting…

Jess and I were talking about getting a 2nd Xbox so we could play System Link together.

Nah, I’m waiting for the PS3. Should kick butt, and not give you severe hand cramps like those XBox controllers. Plus, I’d be able to play all the old PS games (XBox 2 won’t be compatible with old XBox titles).

Can I play my old PS1 games on it?

Yeah, because the keyboard and the mouse are the world’s most ergonomic gaming devices.

Severe hand cramps? Give me a break, the Xbox controller is fine. I’ve never had any problems with it. I get more hand cramps writing my angry EMB rebuttals. Not to harp on Steve again or anything, but it seems like he’s got his Us vs Them, Mac vs PC, Sony vs Microsoft blinders on.

I’ve heard that the Gamecube controller is the best feeling of all three consoles, so why aren’t you holding out for their next generation console? Aside from the fact that there are a lot of different styles of Xbox controllers and even convertors that enable you to use a PS2 controller with your Xbox.

Nintendo has never been backwards compatible, and no one gives a shit. Maybe Sony makes everything backwards compatible because they know their machines won’t last very long… Microsoft isn’t making Xbox2 backwards compatible so they can keep the price down. Sounds good to me…

Let’s get something straight. We count on Steve for Mac evangelism, Microsoft conspiracy theory and keeping us safe from illuminati-financed conglomerates. He’s also the sausage king of Chicago…or was that Abe Froman? I can side with Steve on this one but only partially. Tim, you and I are both playing XBox with the updated controllers. The original ones really were murder on the wrists and hands. The updated XBox controller has a much better layout and is easier to hold/play with for extended periods of time (see: Halo). On the other hand, the PS2 controller has always been my favorite and I have no problem using it for hours on end (see: Gran Turismo 3).

Here’s where I stand on the backward compatability bit. I like being able to play my PS1 games on PS2. But if I couldn’t I really wouldn’t give a damn because I’d be too caught up in the newer titles anyway. Nintendo hasn’t made their consoles backward compatible because they really do reinvent their console with each new release. Microsoft is sort of reinventing their console with a non-x86 processor, an ATI rather than NVidia graphics processor and no hard drive. It makes you wonder if Sony is sacrificing innovation for replay value and extended sales of older titles. Who knows. I’m going to buy both consoles anyway because I’m an idiot so screw it.

Now both of you quit your jabbering and get back to the f**king games.

Frankly, I just got the Xbox because I could mod it and play Atari 2600 and NES games on it. It’s basically going to be a video game jukebox with an underused video card.

Right that’s what your first XBox was for. Now about that second one…

All things being equal… I have to agree… Getting a refurbished x-box and modding it into a video games Jukebox is pretty darn sweet of an idea…

If the emulators would just emulate rumble packs of N64 games I would be all over it.

Yeah, making a video games Jukebox is pretty cool. Of course, you can do the exact same thing with a PS2, an old PC or an old Mac….

I’m leading by example, xbox number 2 is bought, paid for, and delivered. When judgement day comes, you’ll all be behind me in line.
