Just in time for Halo 2

The wedding’s over, bitch!

Am I the last one here to finish Halo? I just got it a few weeks ago so that Jeff and I could play it system link, but discovered recently that it had a single player campaign also!

As most of you know, this is some damn fine shootin’ fun, but most of the excitement involves vehicular mayhem. I can’t recall ever seeing an enemy run to a ship, hop on board, and try to kill me. Nor have I ever been able to shoot them, steal their ship, and then hunt down their wife and kids with it. I only hope Halo 2 takes place on a planet with better gravity so I can control that friggin jeep better.

My only complaint is the lack of enemy variety. Though the alien and mutant design is fantastic, there are only four main types of Covenant and four types of Flood. It gets a bit tedious. Although, waiting in the wings while those two species duked it out and then scavenging the body piles for ammo was enjoyable, I wanted some big boss action and maybe some indiginous beasts to blast into extinction.

Oh, and the library level was way too long. It was a lot like being in an actual library, but with no internet access.

If you haven’t played this yet, run to your nearest Best Buy and pick it up today!

[OK back again, where was I? Oh yeah]

I don’t think it really lived up to the Hype…

[@#$% Dammit!!! One second…]

[Do these guys have to stink soo much!?!? Anyway where was I again… Oh yeah…]

Anyway… the game story…

[ARGH… YES MORE FLOOD! {***BLAM BLAM BLAM***]]

Anyway… So have we decided that Best Buy is a good place to shop?

[ARGH!!! More Flood! Wait! Don’t they shop there?]

First off, congrats to Tim for serving the bomb to Halo. I think Halo definitely lived up to the hype. When the game was finished in 1999 it was way ahead of its time. The Microsoft buyout of Bungie set the release back and gave other developers a chance to catch up to Bungie’s ideas. Even still I think the fluidity of gameplay and vast environments remain unchallenged by most of today’s titles. The story wasn’t too involved but I still think it was a good one. And c’mon, it’s a continuation of Marathon! It sounds like Halo 2 is going to have much more of the Marathon storyline involved as well.

I think storylines are overvalued in FPS games.

“Yak Yak Yak, conspiracy this, conspiracy that. I used to be your friend, but now I hate you. I hate you now, but soon we will make sweet love. That thing you thought was your goal in the beginning is now the opposite and your world is hence rocked”

Just shut-up and drop me off at the nearest field. When something turns my cursor red, I’ll shoot it, when it’s not red I’ll have sex with it twice, call it names, and then slap it around until it makes my cursor red. Then I’ll shoot it. When it’s dead and no longer making my cursor red, I can have sex with it some more. Mwa-Ha-Ha-Ha!

Tim, would you mind uploading your screenshot again? It got blown up. (see home page)

As for Doom3 on XBox I’ve heard nothing as of yet.

So I have to admit, I have not fed the bomb to Halo. My cut-off-my-nose-to-spite-my-face attitude has prevented me from really enjoying the XBox, despite the number of must-play games on it. I think I bought my PS2 because of its high “not from Microsoft” rating rather than because of its particular game play. That was a mistake.

In celebration of my escape from denial, here’s a list of XBox games I haven’t fed the bomb to (that I wished I could have) along with the people whose XBox I used to not-feed-the-bomb:

Halo (Jeff, Tom, Dinari, Dan)
Crimson Skies (Tom)(and the demo system at CompUSA)
Mech Assault (Tom)
Secret Weapons Over Normandy (Dinari)

Chris, never regret your purchase of the PS2. It is a gaming force of extraordinary magnitude. Sure the PS2 might not have a few of the graphics capabilities of the XBox but it still looks great. And the number of quality titles for PS2 outweighs those for XBox pretty heavily. If you’re doubting yourself, go over to EB and look at the rack of XBox games. Pick out which ones you’d really like to play. I’ll bet you come up with fewer than 10.

On the other hand, chicks dig a guy with two or more consoles so get the XBox anyway. Halo’s great and all but once you’ve modded your XBox and turned it into the ultimate emulation station and media center, you will achieve enlightenment. You will learn jujitsu.

I’m thinking of doing the Xbox / Gamecube dyad so I can play Mario, Zelda, and Metroid games. I will agree that there are less great games for Xbox than either of the other consoles. Unless you’re a testosterone junkie who can’t get enough sports games and FPS titles which the Xbox has in droves. I crave a cutesy adventure game now and again, but I guess that makes me gay.

Or perhaps Japanese…

Nothing is wrong with Cutesy games… It is the Cosmic Karma of Video Games… Yin = Blood Guts + Yang = Cute.

You know, I have to give Nintendo credit for making games that are so addictive to play that you completely forget that their console only has four games. I bought an N64 (over a PS1, ironically) and I only ever played maybe six games on it, but four of those were some of the best games I’ve ever played. Zelda: Occarina of Time, MarioKart, MarioGolf, and Super Smash Brothers were so fun it really didn’t occur to me that Sony totally outclassed Nintendo in title selection. Even now, Zelda: Windwaker makes me want to buy a Gamecube.

I still love my N64 to this day… Majora’s Mask, is easily the best Zelda game ever. And even though it took a lot of flak, there is something quite elegant about the trident controler in my opinion. Playing the Zelda convertions for GameCube, never feel quite right.

But yes for WindWalker and Pikmin the GC is worth it… I even will pick the Spider-Man 2 for GC over the X-Box version just because the controler and the controls for the game are so much more intuitive.
